Rotoroa Island

Have you heard of Rotoroa Island?  Picture this . . . 360 degree picturesque views, 82 hectares, wildlife sanctuary and education.



Rotoroa means 'the long setting sun' and is located to the east of Waiheke Island in the Hauraki Gulf.  Facilitated by Brian at Auckland Zoo we enjoyed a full day working (and playing) in the 'field' learning what we can do as humans to make a difference.

Our 'hands on' activities included tracking predators with GPS equipment and then researching them using the tablets provided, we looked at traps and their purposes, bird identification tagging and participated in an amazing hikoi around the island, stopping here and there for information on different bird life that have been released onto the island.
